By planting 111 trees every time a girl child is born in the village, Piplantri is making rapid progress towards gender equality and complete eradication of female foeticide in their society, and leading a green revolution at the same time.

Green Revolution to Save the Girl Child: Eco-feminism in Piplantri
In the monsoon season, Khasi villagers had to cross gushing streams, and given the rapid water flow, it was a dangerous task. It was observed that the Ficus Elastica plant—a species of the fig genus—grew strong roots in the rocky soil which could be manipulated in a certain direction. Root bridges are an example of how indigenous knowledge systems evolve to find solution to problems using locally available resources.

Massive open-cast coal mining operations at Jharkhand's Chhota Nagpur region and along the Damodar River valley has not only resulted in irreversible environmental damage but also displaced thousands of native villagers from their land and traditional occupation. These displaced people work as coal miners or sustain by selling coal in the black market. Working in hazardous conditions they are exposed to effluents of coal mining in the form of coal dust, fly ash and other pollutants mixed in air and water.

After the fall of Chittor, Maharana Udai Singh II established Udaipur around Lake Pichola. As the city grew, the water management system expanded and several lakes were created, interconnected to each other. The security provided by a year-round supply of freshwater made Udaipur the new capital of Mewar state. Post-independence, the palaces on Lake Pichola were converted to heritage hotels.
