After the enactment of the final battle between Bhima and Duryodhana at Kurukshetra, the Bharathakoothu festivities conclude with the devotees walking on burning coals to proclaim their faith in Draupadi Amman. It is believed that Draupadi, born of fire, is also the goddess of fire and she would protect her devotees who undertake this walk.
