Poorakkali or Pooram is a nine-day long festival celebrated in northern Kerala. Observed in the months of March and April, it is associated with the worship of Kama, the god of love, and celebrates the spirit of love. The festival is marked by rituals, mirthful worship through dance and intellectual discourse. It is a unique form of cultural expression engaged in mainly by the marginalised communities like Thiyya, Asari, Maniyani and Saliar. The video brings to you glimpses of festivities from Moosarikoval Vadakathy Bhagavathy Temple in Kannur. It shows snippets of ritualistic ceremonies and poorakkali, the dance, performed by men as part of the festival.
