Published on: 12 June 2018

This module presents an overview of the epic narrative of Pabuji, a mythical hero whose exploits are put to verse and sung by bards, the male bhopa and the female bhopi, who use a large painted backdrop to point out key moments within the narrative. This epic is central to the nomadic and pastoral communities and forms an important part of the folk traditions of western Rajasthan. As a part of the collaboration between Sahapedia and the Rupayan Sansthan, Jodhpur, this module refers to numerous audio, video and photographs from the Rupayan Sansthan Collection at the Arna Jharna Desert Museum, Jodhpur.
