In this candid conversation, Khorasan Khushroo Desai speaks about the emotional investment in Parsi garas (embroidered saris) as they are passed down through generations as heirlooms. She explains the Chinese connections associated with Parsi embroidery, the intercultural mix in designs and motifs, and the rituals and occasions for which garas and jhablas (tunics) are worn. She describes the kors (borders) which were designed to match the inner embroidery of the garas. The special care and laundry required to preserve garas make them a prized inheritance.
