Sahapedia Heritage Walk-A Nature Walk at Hyderabad Botanical Garden

The Hyderabad Botanical Garden spread across an area of 120 acres, consists of 19 vanams or sectors. It boasts of more than 600 varied species of plants.  Along with its vast flora variety, it also attracts many birds and insects, which further enhances the natural charm of this garden. The aim of this trail is to learn more about the local plant varieties and the importance of having a green lung in a city. We’ll also try to do some bird-watching and discuss some pressing environmental issues.

Sahapedia Heritage Walk- Walk Through Elephanta Caves – Jewel of the Arabian Sea (Registration for the walk is full)

 

 

Just 10 km off the Mumbai coast lies a ‘city of caves’ known to have existed from at least 2nd century BC. Elephanta or Gharapuri is an island of two distinct hills separated by a narrow valley and is home to a conglomeration of five Hindu and two Buddhist caves. Considered as the epitome of Hindu cave art, Elephanta emerged as a trade centre in the 5th-7th centuries BC and is sprinkled with testimonials of the past.

Take a walk through the imagination and creativity of a Government official who used his spare time to build a garden out of scrap and waste material.  Nek Chand fashioned this garden after his own imagination of a kingdom. There are sculptures of men, women, birds and animals, artificial waterfalls, an amphitheatre and various other installations, all made from waste material.

Malleshwaram is one of Bangalore’s oldest modern suburbs, formed in 1889 by the Wodeyars or Wadiyars as a response to the plague that hit the city centre. The neighbourhood has different origin stories, all of which contribute to making it a hub of diversity.

 

Sahapedia Heritage Walk- An Enthralling Walk to Parvati Hills

Parvati Hills is a scenic place with a lush green cover, a small lake and, lots of ducks and peacocks. Situated on the hills is the Peshwa Museum and a samadhi of Late Balaji Baji Rao. One of the attractions is a 17th century temple built during the Peshwa rule. The main temple is known as Devdeshwar temple and is dedicated to Shiva-Parvati . The hills derive their name from this temple. There are other smaller temples of Lord Vishnu, Rama, Vithal and Kartikeya.
